Travel insurance for Georgia from Russia: flights and Upper Lars

Which insurance to choose for a trip from Russia
For a holiday, a family visit or a longer trip, select cover for your full stay in Georgia. Lite is the basic option with a 150 GEL deductible. Standard keeps the same deductible and adds priority support. Premium has no deductible and includes personal support. Compare total plan prices for your dates.
Health and accident insurance has been mandatory for incoming tourists since 1 January 2026, with exemptions for certain statuses. The requirements apply to arrivals by air and through a land border.
Buy and pay before the border rush
Choose a plan and prepare each traveller’s document details, date of birth and citizenship, plus a phone number and accessible email address. Enter the person’s citizenship rather than the departure country. Check the dates and total cost before paying. Choose a payment method available in the order. If your bank declines payment, ask the bank about the reason or contact Polis.ge support.
Payment confirmation is not a policy. Wait for each insured person's document and save it. If money was taken but the policy is missing, first check the order status with Polis.ge. Resolve this before travelling, while you have a connection and access to email.
Flying: check your arrival date
Match the insurance period to the local dates of arrival and departure. For an overnight or connecting flight, do not automatically use the date you leave Russia. Include both the first and last days in Georgia.
Save the issued document before travelling and make sure it opens offline. If travel dates change, ask the insurer about changing the period; editing the file yourself does not change the contract.
Upper Lars: people and the vehicle
A foreign-registered vehicle needs compulsory civil liability insurance for its entire stay in Georgia. This is separate cover for damage to third parties; it does not replace each person's tourist policy.
Prepare both types of insurance in advance. If the journey is delayed, recheck the expected entry and departure dates. Consult current road authority updates before setting off; this guide does not report whether the crossing is open right now.
If you already have insurance
A Russian or other foreign insurer's policy can be used if it meets Georgian rules: cover in Georgia for the full period, the required risks, at least 30 000 GEL and a document in Georgian or English. Separately ask the insurer how it arranges assistance in Georgia.
Common questions
Is Russian insurance valid for Georgia?
It may qualify: check Georgia's requirements and your insurer's assistance arrangements. Do not rely only on a label such as overseas travel insurance.
Does a passenger need vehicle insurance?
Compulsory liability insurance is arranged for the vehicle. The passenger's tourist health and accident cover is checked separately.
Can I buy a policy after entering?
Do not postpone it: the tourist requirement applies at entry. Also, GPI Holding's tourist contract provides a 24-hour wait from purchase when bought inside Georgia and does not cover events that have already happened.
