From the first call to treatment

Notify the insurer promptly

The GPI tourist policy requires immediate notification of urgent outpatient, inpatient or dental treatment. If you could not notify the insurer in time, keep evidence of why.

Provide the details

Have the insured person’s name, policy number, clinic name and time of treatment ready. Explain what happened and where you are.

Confirm the arrangements

Ask where to go, which services are authorised and how payment will work. The insurer may pay the covered amount directly at a partner clinic. Deductibles, limits and exclusions still apply.

Keep the paperwork

Collect medical reports, prescriptions, itemised bills and proof of payment. Ask whether originals are needed and how to submit them.

See section 3, page 6 of the GPI tourist policy wording.

Documents to keep

Identity and cover

Your policy and identity document.

Medical records

A description of the care provided, the doctor’s signature and required clinic certification. Form No. 100 for out-of-network treatment in the cases specified in the contract.

Costs

An itemised bill and receipt or other proof of payment required by the contract.

Urgent dental care

Dental charts before and after treatment, as required by the contract.

Keep legible copies and the originals together, along with the date you contacted assistance and the instructions you received. Send medical information only through the channel agreed with the insurer. Confirm the exact document list for your treatment.

What affects the claim decision?

The insurer checks whether cover was active, whether the event is covered, whether notification and authorisation requirements were met, and which limits and deductible apply. Evacuation and repatriation require separate authorisation under the contract. If a claim is declined, ask the insurer for the reason and the relevant policy clause.

These instructions refer to the GPI tourist contract linked below, not to every insurance product. Use the conditions and contacts in your own policy.
